< GoCertify: What exam day tips do you have for CISSP exam takers?
Thomas R. Peltier: Get rid of stress. Find the location before the day of the exam. Get there early and be as fresh as possible. We tell perspective students to train for this like a marathon runner. The day before the exam, rest up and don't do anything out of the normal routine. Don't pull a college-style "all-nighter" to cram for the exam.
< GoCertify: During the exam, if a candidate is not sure of the right way to answer a question, is there any strategy they can follow to increase the likelihood of getting the item correct?
Thomas R. Peltier: We tell students to go through the exam and answer every question they know the answer to. Then go back and answer the questions that the have narrowed down to 2 answers. Then finally go back and try to eliminate incorrect answers on the remaining questions. Read all the questions, the candidate may get an answer for one question in another question. Also, 8 out of a11 times students change a correct answer to an incorrect answer. So go with you first instinct, unless the answer appears in another question or
"deus ex machina".
< GoCertify: What is the SSCP and how does it relate to the CISSP?
Thomas R. Peltier: It is a briefer exam (150 questions) and centers on the technical domains (sever instead of 10).
< GoCertify: What other advice do you have for individuals considering this certification?
Thomas R. Peltier: Read the CRC Press information management articles, and the Auerbach Handbook of Information Security Management. Meet with you local ISSA chapters and discuss security-related issues. This certification is the
beginning of professional certification. A number of colleges and
universities around the country are beginning to offer advanced degrees
in information security and the CBK is the criteria that will be used.
