Ben Forta: The exam covers ColdFusion concepts and fundamentals, the CFML language, Web server and Web browser basics, HTML and JavaScript, databases and SQL, and dynamic application development in general. This is a wide array of topics, but as all of these are used in ColdFusion development, all are included.

GoCertify: In your opinion, what is the most difficult topic or subject that is covered?

Ben Forta: Most examinees fail on some of the more advanced (and less used) CFML elements (things like <CFSCRIPT>, using stored procedures, advanced Custom Tags). The exam does assume that all of CFML is known, and as most developers tend to not use more than half of the language many get stuck on these more advanced topics.

GoCertify: What are the most valuable study techniques for this certification?

Ben Forta: The most valuable study technique is simply a) use ColdFusion, all of it, b)use a Study Guide to review all the material systematically and sequentially.

GoCertify: How much actual hands-on experience does one need to pass the exams?

Ben Forta: Developers with a good year or more of development, experience with all language elements, and having written real-world applications will find the test manageable.

GoCertify: Could one pass it without hands-on experience?

Ben Forta: Without hands-on experience the exam is impossible to pass. That is deliberate and by design. In fact, even with hands-on experience many developers fail. The exam is not intended to be a paper certification, it is intended to single out experienced developers, without experience examinees will not pass.

GoCertify: What other advice do you have for individuals considering this certification?

Ben Forta: Use ColdFusion. Often. And as much of it as possible. The best way to pass is to know the stuff - and the only way to really know it is by using it.
