I bought this book several months ago and finally spent enough time plowing through it to be ready to take the exam. Which I took today and passed. Glad that's out of the way, as it's a really obnoxious exam. (I took the 1.4 version in 2006.)
Many of the test questions rely on misdirection/trickiness, as opposed to getting plainly at your understanding of Java itself. Several questions only test brute memorization of APIs. There are not enough questions, so the categorical results given ... Read More

I love this book! I was reading the Java5 version and I decided to buy this one but right now I'm complaining for the way that it is packed. I expected it sealed in a plastic cover, because of that (or any other reason) the CD was lost. The courier (an international one) is going to pay me the total cost of the book and now I need to buy a new one. I really appreciate it sealed.

This an excellent book to prepare you for the SCJP certification exam though some of the sample questions are a bit too tricky. I read this book cover to cover multiple times and attempted to answer the questions at the end of each chapter. I was never able to answer all the questions correctly on the first try. You really have to know the material inside and out to get the right answers. I took all three of the 72-question timed mock exams scoring 60-70% each time. Today I took the actual exam and ...
